Networking with Name Tags

It’s the little things that count, right? And that applies to networking as well.

Andrew Rigie wrote “Why Name Tags And Other Little Details At Events Matter” for Forbes at little less than a month ago. And, we love what he said about networking!

The pressure is always high when you’re hosting a business networking event. Whether it’s a cocktail party for clients, an event to foster new business relationships, or a team building activity for your company, creating the right vibe and experience for attendees is a must. It doesn’t matter if you’re hosting a large event or small, it’s the little details that make a big difference.

wear a name to when networking and make it easier when you know everyone's name

Think for a moment. What does good networking look like? How do people act while networking? What are their attitudes? Most people would agree that a good networker is sincere, friendly and outgoing, supportive and a good listener. It isn’t just about staying in touch. It goes beyond that. A good networker is someone you want to trust and be friends with.

Providing high-quality name tags at networking events is a little detail that makes a big difference. They are worth the extra money. When we host networking events for hospitality industry professionals, we invest in high-quality name tags that stick to clothing using a magnet, instead of those with a pin. We’ve learned that people don’t always want to put a pin through their clothes and that using high-quality magnetic name tags elevates the perceived quality of the event.

Presentation Matters

badge holder cases and custom trays to display your name tags for your next networking eventRemember that people need to find their name tag easily. You don’t want several people milling around a table for too long before they locate their credentials and pass to enter your event. Take into consideration how they will be looking for their name. Are they use to finding their first name or last? And organizing names by a company makes it just the much more manageable.

Use our Badge Holder Cases and Display Trays to make your name tags easily accessible.

Utilize All of Your Tools

While badge holders and name tags are a great item to have on hand for any event, remember that you have other tools available. Try adding badge ribbons to each name tag for a custom look. Design ribbons to correspond with titles or positions at your next event.

While we have over 50 titles available as stock choices, custom ribbons are also available. Choose the color and title that best suits your need. And, if branding is needed, most of our ribbons can have a logo or graphic added.

People sometimes wince at the concept of name tags because they think they make the atmosphere cheesy or they’ve found ‘Hi My Name Is’ stickers stuck to the bottom of their shoes. But guests at our events make positive comments about the magnetic name tags, and they always want to take them home.

Name tags just fit the bill with networking. So, make your next event work even better with custom name tags and name badges.

Change Your Life with a Name Tag

Name tags won’t just change your life; they will affect everything around you.

Considering all of the elements in a name tag, changing your life is the least this tool will do. Name tags reach much further than just providing someone with your name. Adapted from Scott Ginsberg, here are just a few ways your life will change for the better.

scott ginsberg change your life with a name tag“A name tag isn’t just a sticker; it’s a statement. It’s about friendliness, identity, culture and human nature,” Scott Ginsberg.

A Name Tag Is A Permission Slip

Wearing a name tag is an invitation to friendliness. It’s a way to open up to others and overcome your personal walls. Sigmund Freud discovered that a person’s name is the single context of human memory most forgotten. So, wearing a name tag means one less name people have to worry about remembering.

change your life by wearing any type of name tag including adhesive name badgesBecause name tags are permission slips, they encourage engagement. Their primary function is to personalize and humanize each person. Inviting encounters is what they do. And you permit this change to happen every time you put on your name tag.

A Name Tag Is An Engagement Tool

The hardest part about conversations is getting the ball rolling. That’s why names are so great. They are the basic building block of conversation. The sooner you know people’s names, the sooner you feel comfortable around them.

And the sooner you let another person know your name, the better off you will be. Name tags provide that ice-breaker instantaneously.

A Name Tag Is An Equalizer

change your life with a classic no logo name tagBy wearing a name tag with just your first name, you make it easier for people to connect with you. Others are more apt at finding common ground. Everyone has a first name! When name tags are worn with just your first name, you successfully level the playing field.

A Name Tag Is Non-Threatening

Others can choose to ignore you, but there you are with your name out for all to see. Whether people say hello or just walk by, you’re still being friendly. In this sense, a name tag isn’t imposing on others. It is inviting them to get to know you. And it provides necessary change in your environment for others to trust you.

“Wearing a name tag hasn’t created my identity; it’s revealed it. The name tag excavated and amplified who I always was as a person. It enabled me to continue becoming the person I was in the process of becoming,” Scott Ginsberg.

A Name Tag Is A Sacrifice

Sure, you feel dumb when wearing a name tag. It’s uncomfortable. But think about how many people whose lives you just made easier. Like the guy who’s been working down the hall from you for six years but didn’t know how to spell your name until now. (Or) the shy person across the room who didn’t have the courage to walk up and say hello until now. (How about) the new yoga teacher who had thirty new students, yet only 29 new names to memorize. Whew! How are you practicing mini-sacrifices each day to make other people’s lives (even a LITTLE) easier? What comfort are you willing to forego?

Wearing a name tag stretches your personality. It makes you come out of your shell and your comfort zone. And, in turn, it helps others to do the same. Sure, it might be scary and uncomfortable at first, but think about the impact you have on others by immediately disclosing your name.

No Introduction Needed for Name Tags

From titles to names and pictures, name tags need no introduction.

classic name tags provide an introduction to those around you

The primary advantage of wearing a name tag is that it is an automatic introduction. No matter where they are worn, name tags instantly provide your credentials to those around you. They put you on a first name basis with everyone.

And, this advantage is perfectly demonstrated when it comes to business ethics. Name tags help your customers remember who you are. From a sales position to a waitress at the local diner, wearing a name tag gives that immediate recognition to anyone.

Here are other ways that name tags are your first introduction.

Uniforms and Branding

name tags provide not only an introduction but also security for any business

By incorporating a name tag, from a simple Speedy Badge to a custom engraved logo, any uniform will stand out. And, each name tag will help with company branding. Sometimes just a specific color uniform shirt and pants don’t quite accomplish the job. So, top off your company uniform with a name tag branded with your logo and company colors.

Then, each name tag will do the talking rather than keep customers guessing who works at your business. And, when using name tags, employees quickly identify those who work for the company. This leads to our next point: security.

Security and Accountability

There it is again. We’re always mentioning security. Name tags are a simple way to control who comes in and out of your business. Make them mandatory. Both employees and visitors should wear them.

By giving employees name tags, you are providing security for your office or store. And, who doesn’t want a secure business? With a simple branding logo, employees are easily identified by customers and other employees. No one will ever have to guess at who their co-workers are again.

Providing name tags for all employees and visitors proves over and over that accountability is a necessity. Identifying those around your company will help with determining where problems are. They also help with making people take better responsibility for their surroundings.

Finally, remember that name tags are the best way to identify and give a first introduction to your company. From branding to security, name tags sure are helpful.

Gaining Our Wings with Donations

All angels have wings, right?

Coller Industries loves giving back to our community. It’s what helps define our business standards and practices. And, without these donations, we know we wouldn’t be complete. And this contribution goes to a fantastic corporation who knows the exact definition of helping and is helping us to get our wings.

The Arc of King County

donations to the arc of king county to that people can get their wingsFormed in 1936, The Arc of King County is a group of parents raising children with intellectual and developmental disabilities came together to advocate for their children’s rights to live, learn, work and play in the community. From these grassroots origins, the first parents of The Arc fought for their children’s rights to access housing, education, employment, and community resources such as transportation.

Their goal is to further the civil rights movement for all persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to thrive as equal, valued, and active members of the community.

Brianne Roberson, Office Coordinator at The Arc of King County, summarizes by saying, “We offer supported living, homelessness prevention and civic engagement to promote and protect the rights of people with IDD.”

Donations are part of who we are.

donations, mighty badges and helping people get their wingsFrom engraved logos to printable inserts, one of our most popular products is our Mighty Badges. Due to the versatility of these name badges, our customers keep coming back for them time and time again. The Arc is no different. Coller Industries provided Standard Mighty Badges with a white back plate for The Arc. Mighty Badges with logos make the process effortless. Now all they have to do is print out the easy-to-use inserts and assemble the badges.

“The name badges allow us to be easily identified and help our clients learn our names,” said Roberson. The Arc is using these tags during their Wings for Autism event.

Wings for Autism is back!

Wings for Autism is a program that is designed to alleviate some of the stress that families who have a child with autism spectrum disorders experience when traveling by air. It provides families an opportunity to practice entering an airport, obtain boarding passes, go through security, and board a plane.

The program also gives airport professionals an opportunity to interact and deliver their services in a structured, learning environment.

The next Wings for Autism event is March 3, 2018, at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.
